Privacy Policy

CivicBuddy is being built to make local civic information easier to understand. We want our own data practices to be just as clear. This policy explains what the CivicBuddy website collects, how we use it, and the services involved.

Last revised: October 26, 2026

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Email address when you request to join the CivicBuddy optional product-update list.
  • City or municipality if you choose to provide it. This is optional and helps us understand where people are interested in CivicBuddy.
  • Information you send us directly if you contact us.

Basic website usage information

The website can be read without providing an email address. This website uses no external fonts or embedded media. A hosting provider may process request logs when serving the site.

2. How we use information

  • manage the CivicBuddy optional product-update list;
  • confirm that subscribers want to receive CivicBuddy emails;
  • understand which municipalities show interest in CivicBuddy;
  • improve CivicBuddy, its website, messaging, and launch plans;
  • respond to inquiries; and
  • protect the website and address misuse or technical problems.

We do not sell the personal information you provide through this website.

3. Brevo and email signup

CivicBuddy uses double opt-in. Submitting the signup form does not complete your subscription. Brevo sends a confirmation email, and you are added to the subscriber list only after you confirm.

Brevo is used to manage the optional product-update list and deliver confirmation and product-update emails. Your email address and, if provided, your municipality are sent to Brevo for these purposes.

You can unsubscribe from product-update emails at any time using the unsubscribe mechanism in those messages.

4. Hosting and browser storage

This website does not load advertising measurement scripts or create advertising identifiers. Cloudflare browser analytics is disabled. Hosting providers may process requests to serve and protect the site; server-side processing and retention depend on the hosting configuration.

On page load, we attempt to remove the former advertising choice and signup receipt entries from this site's browser storage. We do not create a replacement identifier. Previously stored cookies may remain until they expire or you remove them through your browser settings. This cleanup cannot erase information already sent to a provider or cookies on another provider's domain.

Optional signup sends the information you provide to the signup service. Following an external source link takes you to a site with its own privacy practices.

5. Service providers

For the current CivicBuddy website, key service providers are:

  • Brevo — email signup, contact-list management, double opt-in, and email delivery.
  • Cloudflare — website hosting, the Worker that securely submits signup data to Brevo, and any configured server-side request processing.

These providers process information according to their own terms and privacy practices and may process data outside your province or country.

6. How long we keep information

We keep subscriber information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the optional product-update list, meet legal or operational requirements, or until you unsubscribe or request deletion where applicable. Service-provider retention may also depend on the settings and privacy practices of Brevo and Cloudflare.

7. Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to ask about, access, correct, or request deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to withdraw consent subject to legal limitations.

  • Do not complete the double-opt-in confirmation if you do not want to join the list.
  • Unsubscribe from product-update emails at any time.
  • Contact us with a privacy question or request.

8. Security

The Brevo API key is kept server-side in Cloudflare Worker secrets and is not exposed in the website's browser code. We also use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect personal information, although no transmission or storage method can be guaranteed completely secure.

9. Children

This CivicBuddy website is intended for a general audience and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as CivicBuddy develops or our service providers and practices change. The “Last revised” date shows when this policy text was last changed.
